Gutierrez, 29, was identified as the suspect in the Sunday night murder of Torres, 25, who was found with gunshot wounds on Nectarine Street around 8:30 p.m., police said. Gutierrez fled the scene and was charged with Murder and Firearm Not To Be Carried Without A License. A warrant had been issued for his arrest, and police had sought tips to locate him.
Around 11:10 a.m. Monday, police received a tip that Gutierrez was traveling south on Cameron Street. Marked police units pursued his vehicle. When Gutierrez realized he was being followed, he began shooting at officers from his moving car, police said. Officers returned fire.
The shootout ended after Gutierrez’s vehicle stopped and drones confirmed no movement. Officers pronounced him dead at the scene at 12:42 p.m., according to Harrisburg Police.
North Cameron Street remains closed between Arsenal Boulevard, Maclay Street, and Herr Street as the investigation continues. PennDOT estimates the closure will last until noon.
