The Washington Commanders are officially coming home. The DC City Council voted 11-2 late on Wednesday, Sept. 17 to give the final approval for a $3.8 billion project to build a 65,000-seat stadium at the old RFK Stadium site. The plan also calls for a mixed-use development project in the surrounding neighborhoods, as well as affordable housing in the area. Survey Reveals How Americans Are Coping With Rising Costs As Housing Leads Way
Americans are rethinking what “affordable housing” means as rising costs force families to adjust, according to a new national survey. The poll of 1,000 adults found more than half believe they pay too much for their homes. Respondents reported spending an average of 42 percent of their annual income on housing-related expenses. Parents were especially concerned: 42 percent said they doubt their children will be able to afford living in the same neighborhoods where they are growing up. High-speed rail in the Northeast just got a significant upgrade. Amtrak's new NextGen Acela trains launched on Wednesday, August 27. Rats Are Taking Over As Cities Get Warmer: New Study Shows Why
Climate change is fueling a surge in rat populations across major US cities, with Washington, DC, seeing the worst increase over the past two decades, a new study said. The study published by Science Advances on Friday, Jan. 31, analyzed public records from 16 cities worldwide to determine why some urban environments are more infested with rats than others. Popular Jersey Shore Vacation Spot Eyes $34M Boardwalk Reconstruction After This Summer
North Wildwood is preparing to start rebuilding its popular boardwalk after this summer. The popular vacation spot is finalizing the plans to reconstruct its part of the Wildwoods Boardwalk, according to a post on the city's Facebook page on Monday, Feb. 5. The first phase of the project is expected to begin in the fall and work will happen between 16th and 18th avenues. Shuttered Berks County Pool Could Be Transformed Into Exactly What Residents Asked For: Report
Some 60 residents in Reading could have their wishes for the East Reading Pool granted. They wanted a parking lot for the pool closed since 2015 and, according to WFMZ, they could be getting just that — complete with 63 spaces. The Reading City Council talked about handing over the East Reading Pool site to the Reading Parking Authority in Monday, Sept. 12 meeting, the outlet says.
