A York County man who slaughtered his wife, mother-in-law, and three young children inside their West Princess Street apartment more than three decades ago will remain on death row after losing another federal appeal, the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office announced on Tuesday, Aug. 19.
Paul Gamboa-Taylor, now 65, killed his family with a hammer and knife at 667 West Princess Street in 1991. The victims were identified as his wife, Valerie L. Gamboa-Taylor, 23; her mother, Donna M. A man was found stabbed to death inside a hotel room just miles from Pennsylvania, New York State Police announced on Thursday, Aug. 21.
Officers responding to a welfare check discovered the body of Sean M. Dawson, 32, of Alfred, New York, inside his room at the Economy Inn on State Route 244 in Allegany County, approximately 30 minutes from Pennsylvania, around 10:22 a.m., investigators said. He had suffered multiple stab wounds.

The day before a pregnant Massachusetts teen went missing earlier this month, she sent a chilling text to her sister about her boyfriend: “My phone is at 4% and if I die, it was Greg.”
Two weeks later, police found the body of 18-year-old Kylee Monteiro, who had been stabbed to death and buried in the yard of her boyfriend’s grandparents in Rehoboth, authorities said.
Gregory Groom, 22, admitted to police that he killed Monteiro, the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said. Despite that alleged confession, he pleaded not guilty to murder.

A Lebanon man whose 2015 murder conviction was thrown out by a federal court has been found guilty again — and this time, the judge made sure his sentence would keep him behind bars forever.
Eddie Williams, 50, was sentenced Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2025, to life in prison without parole plus 25 additional years after a Lebanon County jury in June convicted him of First-Degree Homicide, Conspiracy to Commit Homicide, Attempted Homicide, Robbery, Illegal Possession of a Firearm, and multiple other crimes, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

A former Lancaster man accused of stabbing another man to death during a 2013 robbery has waived his preliminary hearing, prosecutors announced on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2025.
Shawn D. Jones, 54, is charged with killing Allan Wayne Hess, 59, during a burglary in the 200 block of West Walnut Street on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, according to the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office.
Jones waived his hearing before Magisterial District Judge John Bender on Monday, July 29, allowing the case to proceed to Lancaster County Court.

After more than a decade, Catherine Hoggle is now facing murder charges in the case of her missing children in Maryland.
Hoggle, 38, of Clarksburg, was indicted by a Montgomery County grand jury on two counts of murder nearly 11 years after her children — Sarah, 3, and Jacob, 2 — disappeared, police announced on Sunday, Aug. 3.
Sarah and Jacob Hoggle were last seen on Sept. 7, 2014. Their mother was reportedly the last person seen with them, Montgomery County Police said.
