Merck Stock Drops, Layoffs Begin In $3B Restructuring Plan
Merck, a pharmaceutical company headquartered in Rahway, announced it will be undergoing layoffs after a disappointing second quarter. In its earnings report, Merck said it aims to save more than $3 billion in cost savings as part of a "multiyear optimization initiative." The restructuring program includes eliminating certain administrative, sales and research and development positions. A Hillsborough man was holding a three-foot-long sword when he was pepper-sprayed and then shot and killed by police at his home last month, New Jersey's top law enforcement official said Monday. Experimental antiviral drug molnupiravir being developed by New Jersey drug manufacturer Merck with Ridgeback Bio shows a quick reduction of the infectious virus in a study among participants with early COVID-19.
