PA Writer, Arts Advocate Dies At 51, Remembered For 'Brilliant Mind' Matthew “Dutch” Rooney, a beloved writer, arts patron, and longtime supporter of ballet and opera, died Friday, Aug. 15, at his home in East Hampton. He was 51. Rooney was born Nov. 11, 1973, in Meadowbrook, Pennsylvania, the son of JoAnn (Wallace) Rooney and the late John Rooney, according to his obituary.  He attended Gwynedd Mercy Academy and The Hill School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, before earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from New York University and a Master’s from Columbia University, where he won several writing awards. PA Woman Who Died At National Park Was Traveling Nurse With 'Zest For Life,' Fund Says Gillian Tones of North Apollo was identified as the Pennsylvania woman who drowned at Glacier National Park in Montana over the weekend. She was 26.  Nations Parks Service officials said Tones slipped and fell into the water above St. Mary Falls on Sunday afternoon, June 23.  Witnesses said bystanders pulled her from the water after she was washed over the falls. Name Released Of 29-Year-Old Man Killed By Police In Central PA A convicted felon has died following an officer-involved shooting in Lewistown, Pennsylvania State Police announced on Tuesday, June 11, 2024.  Ridge Ryen Rhodes, 29 of Lewistown, is accused of firing "several shots" when local police responded to the area of the 100 block of West Fourth Street and fired back around 8:30 p.m. on Monday, according to the PSP Troop G release.  Rhodes "succumbed to injuries" after being shot by police. Northampton County Man Who Died In Fiery Route 115 Crash Was 'Shiner Of A Light' A 30-year-old Northampton County man died in a fiery crash over the weekend on Route 115 outside of Wind Gap, authorities said. Lane H. Dickey, of East Bangor, was heading north in a 2008 BMW 328i "ate a high rate of speed" when the car left the roadway and the driver's side hit a tree around 1:35 a.m. in Ross Township, Pennsylvania State Police said in a news release. The car came to a rest on the left side of the road and then went up in flames, authorities said.  Dickey was pronounced dead at the scene by Monroe County Coroner Tom Yanac.
