A 22-year-old Allentown mother is facing assault charges after allegedly admitting she forced her 2-year-old daughter into hot bath water, leaving her with second-degree burns last year, according to news reports. A 23-year-old Berks County man charged with homicide in relation to a shooting last August in Reading reportedly stabbed two corrections officers on March 9 at Lehigh County Jail in Allentown, according to LehighValleyLive. The death of a 32-year-old Lehigh County Jail inmate has been ruled a suicide, LehighValleyLive reports. An autopsy was performed Monday on the body of Jeff Mendoza, of Bethlehem, by the Lehigh County Coroner's Office, the news outlet reports. Mendoza was found unresponsive in his cell around 7:05 a.m. Saturday, authorities told The Morning Call. Man Who Tried Hiring Pennsylvania Trooper To Kill Ex-Girlfriend Captured At Casino, Police Say
A man who offered an undercover Pennsylvania state trooper ecstasy in exchange for killing his ex-girlfriend was taken into custody at a Bethlehem casino Wednesday, Allentown police said. Dominic L. Escalera, 37, is accused of offering the trooper 150 ecstasy pills and providing the gun to assault or kill his ex-girlfriend, who had received a protection order Feb. 8 after alleging physical and verbal abuse, WFMZ reports citing Allentown police.
