Pennsylvania is stepping up efforts to protect its $1.1 billion mushroom industry from an invasive insect that's harming crops and frustrating homeowners. Farms in Kennett and New Garden townships have been ordered to steam-treat between crops to stop the spread of phorid flies, the state agriculture department said in a news release on Thursday, Jan. 30. Drought Conditions Declared In 35 PA Counties: State Environmental Officials
Drought conditions have been declared in 35 Pennsylvania counties as of Friday, Nov. 1, according to state environmental officials. Thirty-three of those counties are under a Drought Watch while two others are under a Drought Warning, the state's Department of Environmental Protection said in a news release. Poisoned Hawk Found By Hiker In Lower Merion Township: Police
A red-tailed hawk that was suffering after being poisoned was rescued in Lower Merion Township, according to police. Officers responded to a call about a hawk that was in distress in a wooded area of Gladwyne, the Lower Merion Township Police Department said in a Facebook post on Tuesday, Oct. 15. Officer Brian Devlin, the department's Animal Warden, confirmed to Daily Voice that he was involved in rescuing the hawk on Wednesday, Sept. 25.
