At 12:44 p.m., officers responded to Beach Road and Martin Road for a report of a person down on the sidewalk, Verona police said. They found the man on his back unresponsive with a shovel in his hand, police said. CPR was initiated and he was transported to Mountainside Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said. The victim has not been identified, police said.
