A man took his own life during a domestic disturbance involving a female that brought a major police response to the scene in Berks County over the weekend. Police responded to reports of a domestic incident on Morgantown Road just south of Westley Road around 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, Robeson police said. Police in Berks County were justified in shooting a man when he refused to drop a knife and lunged at them with it on Wednesday, March 30, authorities announced. Officers tased Robert Eckert, 67, before shooting him after he allegedly refused to drop the "large knife" and lunged at them on Butlers Lane in Mohnton around 7:45 a.m., Chief County Detective Michael J. Officer Shoots Knife-Wielding Man In Berks County: DA
A knife-wielding man was shot by police Wednesday, March 30 in Berks County, authorities said. Brecknock Township police responded to a 911 call of a man suffering from a mental health crisis in Mohnton around 7:45 a.m., Chief County Detective Michael J. Gombar said. Officers found the unnamed 66-year-old man "holding a large knife" on Butlers Lane, they said. He didn't listen when an officer told him to drop the knife and lunged at them, police said.
