Edgar Holguin-Reyes, 30, and Yakayra Reyes, 27, both of Reading, PA, were pulled over around 6:35 p.m. on Sunday, March 30, on Route 287 in Mahwah, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said.
During the stop, detectives searched the vehicle and found approximately 14,000 suspected fentanyl pills, Musella said. The pills are believed to have a total street value of $420,000.
Holguin-Reyes and Reyes were each charged with second-degree possession with the intent to distribute fentanyl-laced pills, authorities said.
Both were taken to the Bergen County Jail and are awaiting a court appearance at Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, Musella said.
The arrests were part of a narcotics investigation led by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotic Task Force, under Chief Matthew Finck, with help from the Mahwah Police Department.
