An 18-year-old recent high school graduate who represented Pottsville at the Soap Box Derby World Championships was killed when the car she was riding in spun into the path of an oncoming tractor-trailer, Pennsylvania State Police said.
Alexandria J. Womer, of Pottsville, was sitting in the front passenger seat of a Chevrolet Malibu when the crash happened on Burma Road, north of Firetower Road, in Blythe Township, Schuylkill County, at approximately 8:16 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, according to a crash report released Thursday, July 30.

Woman Dies Weeks After PA Crash, Coroner Says
A woman injured in a crash earlier this month has died from her injuries, authorities announced Thursday, July 30.
Nancy L. Svitana, 83, of Whitehall Township, was pronounced dead at 9:25 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, according to Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio.
Her death was caused by complications of multiple traumatic injuries, and the manner of death was ruled an accident, the coroner said.

A homeless man has been charged in two separate child sexual assaults, authorities announced Wednesday, July 29.
Jonathan Taylor Smith, 32, was charged in each case with two counts of indecent assault and one count of corruption of minors following incidents reported on Harrison Avenue on Sunday, Feb. 2, and Wednesday, Feb. 5, according to releases issued by the Waynesboro Police Department.
