19, Flu, RSV Hospitalizations Leads To Winter Virus Warning By CDC
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is sounding the alarm, warning that low vaccination rates for COVID-19, influenza, and RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) could strain healthcare systems across the nation in the weeks ahead. Hospitalizations among all age groups in the last month increased by 200 percent for influenza, 51 percent for COVID, and 60 percent for RSV, the CDC said. Meanwhile, coverage for the seasonal 2023-2024 flu shot is low in all age groups compared with the same period of the 2022–2023 season. Just 17 percent of adults had received the updated COVID vac…

19: First Case Of 'Variant Of Concern' From India Found In US
As COVID-19 deaths mount in India, health officials in the United States are now contending with a new strain of the virus that has been reported stateside. One day after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared that the COVID-19 variant from India was a “cause of global concern,” it was announced that the strain had spread to dozens of countries, including the United States. The so-called B.1617 variant made its first domestic appearance after it was discovered in a patient in Arizona being treated for COVID. According to researchers, the India variant, like several others that have …

19: CDC Releases Results Of Study On Pfizer, Moderna Vaccine Use By Pregnant Women
Results of the largest study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on the use of two-dose COVID-19 vaccines by pregnant women have been released. The new study, published this week in the New England Journal of Medicine, found that out of more than 35,000 people who were pregnant or soon to become pregnant, there is no evidence to suggest that the Pfizer or Moderna COVID vaccines pose risk during pregnancy. Little data has been released on the Johnson & Johnson one-dose vaccine, which had run into production issues before distribution was paused following rep…

Report: Risk Of Getting COVID After Vaccine Low As Shark Attack, Plane Crash
Government data released last week show that 5,800 fully vaccinated Americans still got COVID, anyway. Which means what? “That may sound like a big number, but it indicates that a vaccinated person’s chances of getting Covid are about one in 11,000,” the New York Times reports. Put another way, “either zero or one vaccinated person will die today from Covid,” David Leonhardt wrote. Compare that with the estimated 100 U.S. vehicle deaths each day, he added. The risk becomes clearer when considering President Biden's announcement Wednesday that the United States this week is exceeding 200 …
