Christian Mazzariello, Bergen County Native, Dies At 20 Years Old
Christian Mazzariello, a native of Emerson, died on Thursday, Feb. 8 at the age of 20, after battling a brief illness according to his obituary. Mazzariello was a student (Class of 2025) at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA, majoring in computer science at the P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science, the university announced in a statement. The death of a 19-year-old, first-year student at James Madison University was found dead inside a dorm on campus, officials said. At around 2:30 a.m. on Thursday morning, officials say that a 19-year-old was found dead in Frederickson Hall, prompting James Madison University Police to call for an inquiry by the Virginia State Police's Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Officials have identified the 16-year-old student killed in a car crash near Emmaus High School on Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 31. (Note: This story has been updated to include information from Emmaus police.) Edwin Cortes, of Allentown, died of blunt force injuries to the torso due to a motor vehicle collision, said the Lehigh County Coroner's Office. His manner of death was ruled accidental. A York College Freshman who was found unresponsive died on Thursday, Nov. 17, authorities say. Ryan Heflin, of Norristown, was found in his residence hall Thursday afternoon and later pronounced dead, according to Richard Satterlee, dean of student development and campus life. A 21-year-old star athlete from New Jersey was found dead in his dorm room on Saturday, Oct. 8, according to York College of Pennsylvania school officials. Andrew "Drew" Ruehlicke, of Mullica Hill, "was found unresponsive in his residence hall room earlier today and was later deemed deceased," Richard T. Bloomsburg Student Calls 911 In Icy Fall That Killed 'Soulmate'
A Bloomsburg University student from York County died when he and his girlfriend fell down an icy cliff on Feb. 4, 2022, authorities said. Kyra DeStefano of Lansdale called 911 from where she became stranded on partway down the cliff off of Sharp Ridge Road in Mayberry Township around 3:05 p.m., the Montour County Coroner's Office said. A 19-year-old Penn State grad died the day after a single-vehicle crash in Adams County, according to a release by the York County Coroner's office. Courtney Groft, 19, of first block of Sedgwick Drive located in Reading Township, Adams County, was pronounced dead at WellSpan York Hospital on Saturday at 3:10 p.m., the release states.
