Hazleton Shooting Victim Taken To Lehigh Valley Hospital: Police A man was wounded from a gunshot to his right index finger as he was in the area of Alter Street and 17th Street on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, according to the Hazleton City Police Department. The man was treated at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hazleton for the non-life-threatening wound and later released, police said. Police responded to a notification from the Raven Gunshot Detection System that shots were fired in the area of Alter and 17th streets. Pedestrian Dies After Luzerne County Wreck: Coroner A Hazleton man died from his injuries after being struck by a car on Saturday, March 16, according to the Lehigh County Coroner's Office.  Sixty-eight-year-old Michael A. Mumaw was hit by a car near the intersection of North Church Street and 8th Street around 8 p.m. on March 16, Coroner Daniel Buglio wrote in a release.  He was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest where he died from multiple traumatic injuries on Sunday, March 31, officials said.
