Rescue officials are desperate for help after 30 animals were seized from a home in Berks County. The Department of Animal Protection from the Animal Rescue League of Berks County was performing a wellness check when they removed 22 dogs, three cats, five snakes, and two geckos were removed from a home in Womelsdorf on Wednesday, Oct. 9. A 50-year-old woman from Bern Township has been charged with animal cruelty after 51 cats and dogs were found at her home in poor condition, authorities said. Jennifer May Ayala was charged by Humane Police Officer R. Harnish from the Department of Animal Protection at the Animal Rescue League of Berks County. A 28-year-old Reading police officer was found dead in her home on New Year's Eve, according to her obituary shared by her Fraternal Order of Police Lodge, #9. Courtney P. An alligator recovered from a creek in Exeter Township has been returned to its owner, who says the reptile escaped during the flash floods last month. State police are investigating after witnesses in Berks County saw a man throw a puppy in a trash bag over a hill. It happened on Eisenhauer Drive in Alsace Township around 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, according to an incident report by troopers.
