Tesla Driver Fled On Foot After Fatal Philly Hit-Run: Police

A driver is in police custody after authorities say he fatally struck a man in North Philadelphia and then fled the scene.

The victim was crossing the 1700 block of West Hunting Park Avenue at about 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 31 when he was hit by a burgundy Tesla traveling westbound, the department said. 

The driver continued west before abandoning his vehicle and heading north on foot up Clarissa Street, police wrote. Meanwhile, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene about 10 minutes later at 6:55 p.m., they added. 

Richard Collins, 27, was taken into custody just before noon on Wednesday, Feb. 1, police later announced. He's charged with homicide by vehicle, aggravated assault, accident involving death, and reckless endangerment, according to authorities. 

The victim has not been officially identified.
