It happened on the 1800 block of North 20th Street just after 7:30 p.m. on Monday, April 10, city police told Daily Voice. Officers were called for reports of a person with a weapon, and arrived to find both victims "laying on the floor covered in blood."
The adult victim, a 37-year-old woman, had several stab wounds to the "arms and chest area," and was taken to Temple Hospital, the department wrote. The 5-year-old girl had injuries "to the chest, abdomen, and left arm," and is being treated at St. Christopher's Hospital, they added.
Both victims underwent surgery for their wounds and were listed in critical condition as of Tuesday morning, police noted.
No weapons were recovered from the scene, no arrests have been made, and the matter remains under investigation, authorities said. To submit an anonymous tip, call or text Philadelphia Police Department at 215-686-8477.
