Evergicio Gonzalez, 34, is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, and possessing an instrument of crime, the department said.
A woman called 911 around 9 p.m. on Sept. 18 and told dispatchers Gonzalez was armed with a machete and threatening to kill her husband, according to police.
Authorities said the blade was actually from a mower, and alleged that Gonzalez chased the victim with the weapon before throwing it and nearly hitting a child.
Gonzalez was standing in the street holding a broken glass bottle behind his back when police arrived, the department claims.
He is due back in court on Friday, Sept. 29, according to judicial records.
