Retired Deputy Philly Fire Commissioner Dies, 74
John J. Devlin, a longtime member and one-time deputy commissioner of the Philadelphia Fire Department, died last Sunday, Jan. 14, his colleagues said. He was 74.
Devlin, of the Fox Chase section of Northeast Philly, served in the department for 40 years before retiring in 2013, according to his obituary.
He also worked as a volunteer at the Fox Chase Cancer Center and the Philadelphia Second Alarmers Association, and served on the board of the PFD foundation, his obit says.
Firehouse colleagues posted tributes in Devlin's honor after his passing.

Philadelphia Teacher, Levittown Mom Dies, 47
Nicole Larue Walsh, a longtime teacher in Philadelphia schools and a Levittown mother of three, passed unexpectedly on Tuesday, Jan. 16, loved ones said in her obituary. She was 47.
A lifelong Levittown resident, Walsh graduated from Neshaminy High School in 1994 before continuing her studies at Temple University, her obit says. She earned her master's in reading development from Holy Family College, family members wrote.

Melvin Kling, 99, Decorated WWII Vet, Penn State Fan From Pennsauken Went To Hundreds Of Games
Melvin E. Kling, formerly of Pennsauken, New Jersey and the Harrisburg area in Pennsylvania, died on Christmas, a month shy of his 100th birthday, according to an obituary by the Alloway Funeral Home.
He was a highly-decorated veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army in Europe as well as the Korean War, where he was a commanding officer of a 101st Airborne company.
He was a huge fan of the Penn State Nittany Lions. Mel had estimated he traveled to 200 to 300 Penn State football games, both home and away, his obituary said.
