Authorities say the victim was on the 500 block of North 17th Street in the early morning hours on Jan. 27 when he was cut off by another car.
At the end of the block, the car in front of him stopped suddenly and four people — at least one of them armed with a handgun — charged the victim's car, police said.
The victim reversed to get away from the carjackers, then drove forward and was able to escape, detectives said. He appears to swipe the open door of the carjacker's vehicle while fleeing the scene.
Authorities said the carjackers were using a stolen vehicle. Four suspects were also filmed on the SEPTA Market Street Line hours before the incident, investigators said.
Anyone who can identify them is asked to call 215-686-8477 or submit an anonymous tip to the Philadelphia Police Department's website. If spotted, call 911.
