NWS Confirms Tornado Touched Down In Pennsylvania
The National Weather Service at State College has confirmed a tornado touched in Harrisburg and traveled through the neighboring townships during Tropical Storm Debby on Friday, Aug. 9. The EF1 had estimated peak winds of 105 miles, it was 300 yards at its widest, and was on the ground for about 3 1/2 miles, according to the NWS release. The tornado touched down near the Inclinator Company at 4:33 a.m. and took off again near the Pennsylvania State Police headquarters on Elmerton Avenue around 4:40 a.m., as detailed in the release. A group of fast-acting Chambersburg coaches are being hailed as heroes for helping a bus driver having a seizure on the way to a game, in turn saving the players on the bus. National Weather Service Issues Extreme Heat Warning For Pennsylvania
With temperatures expected to sore above 100 degrees Fahrenheit, the National Weather Service at State College has issued a extreme heat warning. The warning went into effect at noon on Wednesday and will remain in effect until Thursday at 7 p.m. The heat wave is expected to last through at least Friday. A thunderstorm watch has been issues in the western part of the state. Central Pennsylvania is under the heat warning with much of the remainder of the state under heat watches and advisories.
