A Pennsylvania Lottery player in South Philadelphia paid $30 for $3 million. The lucky winner earned a prize playing the $160 Million Cash Blowout scratch-off, said lotto officials on Monday, June 24. Saloni Newsstand at 310 Oregon Avenue will receive a $10,000 check for selling the winning ticket, state gaming representatives said. Scratch-off winners have up to one year from the game's end-sale date to claim their prize. At least seven people were injured in less than 24 hours in a pair of car crashes involving SEPTA buses, transit authorities told Daily Voice. The first occurred around 7 p.m. on Tuesday in Haverford Township, a SEPTA spokesperson said. An SUV crashed into several vehicles on West Chester Pike before coming to rest on its front end, pinned between a tractor-trailer and a SEPTA bus, officials said. Man Shoots, Kills Would-Be Robber In Philly: Report
A man shot and killed a would-be robber late Wednesday, May 11 in South Philadelphia, CBS3 reports. The 24-year-old man was smoking a cigarette outside when a man on a bike approached him with a gun and tried to rob him on 6th Street and Jackson Street around 11:30 p.m., the outlet says. That's when the man, who is legally allowed to carry a gun, shot the suspect in the head, who then returned fire but missed, according to the outlet. Teen Bicyclist Struck, Killed By SEPTA Bus In Philadelphia: Police
A teen bicyclist died after being hit by a SEPTA bus in South Philadelphia on Thursday, Feb. 16, authorities said. At around 7:35 p.m., two "juveniles" were standing in the middle of Penrose Avenue near Hartranft Street when one of them spotted an incoming SEPTA bus, Philadelphia police said. One of them was able to get away on their bicycle. The bus driver braked and tried to swerve, but failed and struck the remaining bicyclist, police said. Delaware State Police have arrested five suspects hours after the gunpoint carjacking of Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon in South Philadelphia, authorities said Wednesday. Police recovered the 2017 Blue Acura MDX belonging to Rep. Scanlon around 9 p.m. at 2800 Fashion Center Boulevard in Newark, Delaware State Police said.
