After 52 years as a volunteer firefighter — 26 as Steelton's Fire Chief — a local hero has died. Eugene "Gene" Vance III, 70, had a normal day before he was found dead from a stroke at his home on Thursday, Jan. 4, Dauphin County Officials explained. Gene was a class of 1972 graduate of Steelton-Highspire High School. : 1 Injured By Gunfire In Harrisburg
One person was shooting in Harrisburg on Saturday, according to Swatara Township police. Swatara Township Police Department responded to a report of a person who had been shot at the Rutters located at 8210 Derry Street around 12:40 a.m. Upon arrival, Officers located the individual who had been shot. LifeTeam EMS also responded, providing treatment at the scene and transporting the victim to an area hospital. Pedestrian Pinned Under Vehicle Rescue But In Critical Condition, Harrisburg Fire Say
A pedestrian has been rescued but remains in critical condition after being trapped under a vehicle, according to Harrisburg Fire's Squad 8. Crews were called to the intersection of Evergreen and Thompson streets in Harrisburg's Allison Hill neighborhood for a pedestrian struck by a vehicle around 11 p.m. on Sunday. "Crews worked with LifeTeam EMS for 15 minutes utilizing a ground ladder, cribbing and airbags to lift the vehicle and remove the patient," as posted on Squad 8's Facebook.
