Omar Naheem Jackson, 17, of Leola was arrested on Wednesday and Nazier Vega, 16, of Lancaster was arrested on Thursday, in connection with a shooting in the 300 block of Greenland Drive, Lancaster, on Tuesday, according to East Lampeter police.
At 4:58 p.m. on Sept. 12, the police received reports "that a Black male subject had fired multiple shots from a handgun and was last observed running westbound. The immediate scene was secured, a perimeter was established and the area was checked; however, a suspect could not be immediately located nor identified," the police said.
Spent shell casings were found in the culde sac, but it was not immediately clear "if any intended victim was struck by a bullet," the police explained.
An investigation soon uncoveraged that Jackson and Vega were in opposing groups that had a verbal altercation in the cul-de-sac prior to the shooting. "It is unknown if the parties are familiar with one another," the police said.
Both boys were charged by Detective Heather Waltman as adults with the following:
- Criminal (Attempted) Homicide.
- Felony Discharge of a Firearm into an Occupied Structure.
- Felony Firearms Not to be Carried Without a License.
- Felony Possession of a Firearm by a Minor.
- Misdemeanor Recklessly Endangering Another Person.
They were arraigned before Magisterial District Justice, B. Denise Commins, and then incarcerated in the Lancaster County Youth Intervention Center.
This investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information about thegroups involved or the shooting incident is asked to contact the East Lampeter Township Police Department.
The police added the following statement to their updated release late on Thursday:
"Just as our neighbors are, the East Lampeter Township Police Department is appalled by the actions of these subjects. Although we are grateful that there have been no reported injuries, we also realize that some may have lingering fears from the incident. We stand alongside our residents and are committed to helping our community be as safe as possible."
