Stephen "Steve" La Pierre, 66, of Upper Macungie Township, sideswiped Judith Crossley of Upper Macungie Township's vehicle as she was going east on West Tilghman Street in Allentown, about to turn onto Werley Road, as Daily Voice previously reported. He continued to strike a curb, cross all lanes on Tilghman Street before hitting a lamp pole, and became airborne around 10:37 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 5.
"An investigation into this crash determined La Pierre’s car had been speeding just prior to the accident," District Attorney Gavin P. Holihan wrote in a release on Monday, Oct. 14, "Although the investigation is ongoing and it is unclear whether La Pierre suffered a medical emergency that caused or contributed to the accident, it is clear that La Pierre was the cause of the accident, and therefore no criminal charges will be filed."
DA Holihan concluded his release as follows:
"We are releasing these details to make the public aware of the serious consequences that occur when someone is driving recklessly or speeding. Not only do they put themselves at risk, but they endanger the lives of others not engaging in risky behavior."
Steve was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin for both his Bachelor of Science and Master of Business Administration, according to his LinkedIn. "has served the senior market for more than 25-years as both a Vice President of Operations in the Senior Living/Life Plan Community Industry and as Chief Operations Officer in the long-term care insurance industry," as stated in about section of his Linkedin About section.
At the time of his passing, he was the CEO & President of OASIS in Harrisburg, served as the Vice President of Operations for Maryland & Pennsylvania at Acts Retirement-Life Communities, Inc., and was a licensed skilled nursing facility administrator in various states across the country, as explained in his obituary posted by Cantelmi Long Funeral Home.
For fun he enjoyed making music, rooting for the Chicago Bears, and learning languages, according to his obituary.
Steve is survived by his partner, daughter and son, brother and sister, granddaughter, and extended family.
His funeral will be at the Cantelmi Long Funeral Home located at 500 Linden Street in Bethlehem where the family will receive relatives and friends from 5 P.M. until the time of the service at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
