A pair of Maryland man have been arrested for kidnapping and assaulting a victim, authorities said. Javier Antonio Ortiz and Edwin Manuel Reyes, both 22 of Hyattsville, convinced the woman to leave the Unplugged Restaurant and Sports Bar, located on Georgia Avenue in Wheaton with them on Feb. 5, Montgomery County police said. The victim, who knew the men, got in their car and, once inside, was beaten and threatened with a handgun when she tried to get out, police said. After 40 years, Pennsylvania authorities have charged a 58-year-old man in the cold case murder of a young Delaware County woman. Denise M. Pierson disappeared on April 14, 1981, after visiting a friend's house, Pennsylvania State Police and the Delaware County District Attorney's Office said in a joint release on Friday, Feb. 11. Her remains were discovered in July 1984 near the railroad tracks located at 7th and Market Streets in Marcus Hook. A North Carolina woman was indicted in the 2014 murder of her Maryland landlord, authorities announced Thursday. Detectives believe Prakash Rampatsingh, 50, of Hanover (York County), Pennsylvania went to a property he owned in Baltimore that Charity Sophia Goodwin, 38, was renting on or about June 24, 2014, Maryland State Police said.
