Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx.

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

Video: Paterson Firefighters Protect Church From Intense House Fire Paterson firefighters kept flames from consuming a church as they put down an intense blaze in a vacant home Wednesday morning. The Hopper Street fire broke out around 10:20 a.m. in a house right next to Christ Temple Baptist Church and spread quickly, engulfing the building and destroying a neighboring home. The church's wooden window frames were burned, its stained glass windows on that side were destroyed and the brick was singed as firefighters battled to keep the blaze from overtaking it. SUV Crashes Through Front Of Hackensack Auto Zone, Damages Three Aisles A 52-year-old motorist told police she hit the gas instead of the brake and crashed her SUV through the front and into an Auto Zone store in Hackensack, authorities said. The 2004 Volvo damaged the Old River Street storefront as well as aisles 1, 2 and 3, just after 9 p.m. Tuesday, Capt. Nicole Foley said. The driver and her 35-year-old passenger weren’t injured, nor was anyone in the store, the captain said. A city inspector determined that the building wasn’t compromised, she added. SUV Crashes Into Maywood Beauty Salon A Maywood beauty salon had already closed when an SUV crashed through the storefront on Tuesday. The 30-something driver wasn't injured, responders said. Borough police and firefighters responded to the Reliz De Manila Salon on 150 West Pleasant Avenue. Authorities reported no structural damage to the building.

Convicted 'Bridgegate' Lane-Closure Participant Resentenced To Less Federal Prison Time A former top Port Authority official had his “Bridgegate” federal prison sentence reduced Tuesday to 18 months from two years. William E. Baroni Jr., 47, who was appointed by then-Gov. Wayne PD: DWI Motorist Who Hit Car Found Behind Wheel Of Idling Pickup An intoxicated 52-year-old Wayne motorist was still behind the wheel down the block from a hit-and-run crash when police said they found his pickup idling in the middle of the street.
