Richard Michael Frank, 51, on Dec. 2, 2021, was found guilty of indecent assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and corruption of minors, according to the Bucks County District Attorney's Office.
Frank will also be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, the DA's office said.
Upper Southampton Police Detective James Schirmer began the investigation in Sept. 2019 after a report of suspected child abuse was filed with the department, Daily Voice reported.
The victim told investigators about the sexual abuse that happened while Frank was supervising her in July and Aug. 2017, the DA's office said.
Frank was arrested in Oct. 2019, authorities said.
The victim’s mother testified in court that Frank used his position of authority to abuse the victim, claiming “he thought he was above the law," according to the DA's office.
The young girl reportedly added that she “was determined to make sure that he would not do this to anyone else."
Frank was a Philadelphia police officer from 1999 until the date of his arrest, authorities said.
This case was investigated by Upper Southampton Police Detective James Schirmer and was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Monica W. Furber.
