Forty-two-year-old Laura Abrams had a gunshot wound to the head when police found her before sunrise on Wednesday, Nov. 22, Daily Voice reported.
She was pronounced dead at the scene and homicide detectives are investigating, police have said.
On a GoFundMe campaign, Abrams' children said she was coming back from work and was shot during a botched robbery.
"She was on her way home from her job and was murdered over a petty theft," wrote her son, Eric Abrams. "Thanksgiving Day, she was supposed to make us a seafood salad and finish watching her shows, she was going to be off."
Eric said he will remember his mother's work ethic, her faith, and her love for her family.
"As the son of Laura Abrams, I can say she always had energy for us."
"She did nothing but worked and prayed for herself and the two children she was currently providing for," he wrote. "Praying, protection, and positive energy."
Eric and his sister are collecting donations to ease funeral costs and other end-of-life expenses, he said.
"I depended on her a lot so without her I'm feeling extremely lost," he wrote. "We're looking for help with her service and either cremation or burial, which we plan on having soon."
As of Monday, Nov. 27, the effort has raised nearly $5,000.
