A former firefighter in multiple counties in Pennsylvania and a Vietnam veteran died on Wednesday, Sept. 11, his former station announced. Blaine W. Horn, 75, of Slatedale, passed away at his home, according to his obituary posted on Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc.'s website. He was known in his community as the former Fire Chief of Citizen’s Fire Company #1 for over 40 years and the current Fire Marshal of Slatedale, but his service to his community dates back much further.  Blaine has been an active member of various fire services for over 60 years, according to his obituary. Beltran Fernandez, 44, of Allentown, was found dead of a shooting at about 1:10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5, in a home on the 2000 block of East Cedar St., according to the Lehigh County Coroner Daniel Buglio. A 76-year-old man shot his wife then turned the gun on himself Thursday morning, April 11 in a Lehigh County home, authorities confirmed. Helen Teresa Knieriem appears to have died from a single gunshot wound and Roy T. Knieriem appears to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot, according to prosecutors and the Lehigh County Coroner's Office. A driver who was ejected from her vehicle in a crash on Feb. 3 has died from her injuries, said the Lehigh County Coroner's Office on Monday, April 1. Iris Crystal Mercado, 37, died from multiple traumatic injuries, the coroner said in a release. Her manner of death was accidental.
