Roy Schlegel, 33, assaulted his girlfriend on the 1000 block of Blue Mountain Drive in Lehigh Township and sped off with her black 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe around 11:50 p.m. Wednesday, local police Chief Scott Fogel said.

Schlegel, of Slatington, later returned to the victim’s home and sped toward police officers who were standing in the driveway, initiating a chase that was quickly terminated for safety, Fogel said.

Schlegel was arrested Thursday after officers saw him walking along Mountain View Drive in Lehigh Township. He ran from police and was later found hiding in a shed on the 1200 block of Meyers Drive, Fogel said.

Schlegel was taken to Northampton County Prison with several outstanding felony warrants for fleeing, eluding, stalking and other offenses.
