Joe Bryant, the former Philadelphia 76ers forward and father of Kobe Bryant, died Tuesday, July 16, the New York Times reports. He was 69 years old. Nicknamed "Jellybean," Bryant was a Philadelphia native and La Salle University alumnus who spent four years with the Sixers from 1975 to 1979, including their 1977 championship bid. Man Shot Dead Near Philadelphia's La Salle University, Police Say
A 40-year-old was shot and killed just blocks from La Salle University in North Philadelphia on Wednesday night, April 3, authorities told Daily Voice. Shots rang out on the 1700 block of West Olney Avenue around 8:45 p.m., PPD said. Officers responded to find the victim with a single gunshot wound to the "lower right stomach." He was taken to Einstein Hospital and pronounced dead just after 9 p.m., according to police. No arrests have been made and no weapons were recovered as of Thursday morning, April 4, authorities said. The shooting remains under investigation.
