It started in Allentown at about 7:45 a.m., city police said in a statement. Dispatchers were told that several people had been shot at William Allen High School, but offciers quickly cleared the building and determined there was no threat after meeting with school staff, the department said.

Then, just before 8 a.m., state police in Northampton County were called about an active shooter at Catasauqua High School, troopers wrote in a release.

Multiple troopers from the Bethlehem and Foglesville stations were on the scene in minutes, but again found no threat on campus and declared the report a hoax, they said.

Both matters remain under investigation, authorities said. Anyone with information about the William Allen High School incident is asked to call the Allentown Police Department at 610-437-7721, while tips about the Catasauqua High School matter should call state police at 610-807-3395.
