John Lippert was found dead under a zero-turn lawn mower by his mailbox on the 100 block of Browns Church Road in Wayne Township (Schuylkill County) around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 4, Pennsylvania State Police said.
Family members told investigators that Lippert had used the lawn mower as means to get his mail due to his declining health.
However, at some point in the past, the emergency cutoff switch under the mower's seat was turned off, police said.
When Lippert used it to get his mail that day, he lost control of the machine, causing it to run over him and asphyxiate him, according to police.
His death was determined to be accidental.
