A Long Island couple will spend decades behind bars for their roles in the murder of a man on a popular walking and biking trail.
Jose Martinez-Vazquez, age 25, of Port Jefferson Station, was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison in Suffolk County Court on Monday, Oct. 7, in the death of Benjamin Flores-Mendez.
His girlfriend, Tiffany Diaz-Cabrera, age 21, of Port Jefferson Station, was given 15 years to life.

Man Kills Ex-Wife, Her BF At Long Island Home, Police Say
A man is accused of fatally shooting his ex-wife and her boyfriend at their Long Island home.
Suffolk County Police were called to a St. James residence on Brasswood Road for a disturbance at around 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28.
Homicide detectives determined that Daniel Coppola, age 50, shot his ex-wife, 50-year-old Kelly Coppola, and her boyfriend, 53-year-old Kenneth Pohlman, police told Daily Voice. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Coppolas were in the middle of a contentious divorce at the time, according to investigators.
