14 Puppies Abandoned In Plastic Cage Rescued On Long Island: Police Fourteen puppies were found abandoned in a plastic cage in an East Rockaway alleyway, prompting a police rescue, authorities announced on Thursday, Feb. 27. Fourth Precinct officers responded to a call about barking dogs near Centre Avenue at 10:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26, according to Nassau County police. Upon arrival, officers discovered the puppies crammed into the cage and immediately transported them to the Town of Hempstead Animal Control for medical assessment and treatment. The investigation into who left the puppies is ongoing.
