Shark Sighting Keeps Swimmers Out Of Water At Several Long Island Beaches A shark sighting kept swimmers out of the water at three New York beaches. The sighting was reported on Long Island at Nickerson Beach in Nassau County.  As a precaution, the town of Hempstead also closed Lido Beach and Malibu Beach for swimmers for a brief period early Saturday afternoon, Aug. 3.  Officials said the shark was spotted about 75 feet from the shore. Girl Injured After Jumping Out Of School Bus In Hudson Valley A teenage girl was severely injured after jumping out of the back door of an Omni bus following a flat tire. The incident occurred in Orange County around 7:15 p.m., Wednesday, July 3, on I-84 in Middletown. According to Trooper Steven Nevel with the New York State Police, a yellow Omni bus carrying 29 passengers was traveling east on I-84 in the town of Montgomery from Camp Pupa in Sullivan County.  The bus was headed to an amusement park in Danbury, Connecticut, when the rear passenger-side tire blew out, forcing the bus to slow down suddenly, Nevel said. Update: Fierce Fire Ravages $3M Tenafly Home 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘: A fierce fire blew through a $3 million Tenafly home Friday night. Everyone got out OK and no injuries were reported after the fire ignited on the first floor near the back of the Hudson Avenue home off County Road shortly before 8:30 p.m. June 14. It quickly went to three alarms and then, later, a fourth for coverage. Firefighters had the bulk of the blaze knocked down within a half hour, then remained until 11 p.m. or so dousing hot spots.
