For the second time this year, a Rockland County spa has been shut down following an undercover prostitution investigation, police said. A man armed with a handgun stormed into a Hudson Valley gas station early Tuesday morning, July 22, firing a round into the floor and fleeing with cash, police said. The Ulster County incident happened around 3:15 a.m. at the Sunoco located at 3600 Route 9W in Highland, according to the Town of Lloyd Police Department. Phelipe Figueroa, of Otisville, was a passenger in the GMC Sierra pickup truck operated by Liam F. A 36-year-old woman with purple and blue hair was nabbed for allegedly stealing a car from a Hudson Valley motel parking lot. A woman has been sentenced to six months in jail for the double-fatal, hit-and-run crash in the region. Orange County resident Angela Fischl, age 25, of Newburgh, pleaded guilty to two counts of leaving the scene of an incident resulting in death on Tuesday, Oct. 15, Following her plea, she was sentenced to five years probation and six months in the Ulster County Jail. Route 9W Stretch Will Be Closed At Times For Nearly 2 Weeks: Here's When, Where
A busy stretch of Route 9W will be closed at times for nearly two weeks during roadwork. The New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) says the stretch of the roadway will be shut down in both directions beginning Monday, Sept. 23, through Friday, Oct. 4, to facilitate construction activities, weather permitting. Weekend travelers will now have the opportunity to take a TOR ferry connection bus beginning this weekend to explore different parts of the Hudson Valley and New York City, free of charge.
