A Hudson Valley man has been accused of driving recklessly on Long Island. Suffolk County Police say they observed a purple 2023 Dodge Charger doing donuts in the hamlet of Shirley at around 1:40 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 6 at the intersection of Montauk Highway and William Floyd Parkway. The vehicle stalled and the man left the vehicle and fled on foot. Following an investigation, officers determined the vehicle was a rental. A 22-year-old faces criminal charges after they were caught traveling at high speed during an alleged street race on a busy Hudson Valley road, police said. The incident happened in Putnam County on Sunday, Aug. 18, when a Carmel Police officer saw an apparent street race occurring at the intersection of Route 6 and Croton Falls Road, the department said on Tuesday, Aug. 20. Gov. Kathy Hochul announced that extra patrols will be on the lookout for drunk and drugged drivers over the Fourth of July weekend. A 28-year-old man was hit with criminal charges and more than 60 traffic tickets after leading authorities on a pursuit through a Hudson Valley shopping center and several neighborhoods, police said.
