A fast-moving round of severe storms swept through the Northeast, spawning a rare tornado in New England and leaving a trail of downed trees, power outages, and canceled events in its wake.
The National Weather Service confirmed that the twister touched down in Holden, Massachusetts, located northwest of Worcester, late Saturday afternoon, Sept. 6, as part of an intense line of storms that moved across about a dozen states.
It was rated an EF-1 twister, the second weakest of the six levels on the Enhanced Fujita damage scale.

Tropical Storm Chantal made landfall just before sunrise Sunday, July 6, near Litchfield Beach, South Carolina, bringing strong winds, torrential rain, and storm surge to parts of the state’s coast.
