A man accused of attacking and choking a Hispanic victim while in line at a Westchester gas station has been released on his own recognizance following his arraignment on hate crime charges, prosecutors announced.
Carl Jones of Spartanburg, South Carolina, 57, was arraigned Sunday, Aug. 10, in Mamaroneck Village Court on one count of third-degree assault as a hate crime, a felony, and one count of criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, a misdemeanor, the Westchester County District Attorney's Office announced on Thursday, Aug. 14.

Man Stabbed By Uncle During Altercation At NY Home, Police Say
A man has been charged with felony assault after allegedly stabbing his nephew during a violent altercation at a home in Westchester, police announced.
The events leading to the arrest began at around 3 a.m. on Sunday, June 15, when troopers responded to a Sunoco gas station in Peekskill after receiving a report of a stabbing. There, they met with the victim, a 35-year-old Peekskill resident, who had called 911, New York State Police said on Thursday, Aug. 7.

Authorities have identified the man who they say died after being assaulted and then struck by a taxi in a Rockland County parking lot, and have also announced an arrest in the case.
The victim, identified as John Peralta, 45, of Spring Valley, was rendered unconscious after being assaulted in the lot of 64 East Eckerson Rd. in Ramapo around 1 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 3, Ramapo Police Lt. Christopher Franklin said Tuesday, Aug. 5.
