The crash happened around 6 p.m. near West 109th Street and Amsterdam Avenue. Police said a 61-year-old man driving a Mercedes-Benz SUV north on Amsterdam Avenue lost control of the vehicle, slammed into two parked cars, and struck five men ages 35, 36, 44, 46, and 51. All five victims were rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition, authorities said.
