A stretch of I-87 near Newburgh was closed for nearly six hours Saturday following a crash involving an overturned tractor-trailer early in the morning.

The crash, reported just before 7 a.m., occurred just before Exit 16 (Harriman), where all southbound lanes were closed until around noon time.

During the closure, all southbound traffic had been held from entering at Exit 17 (Newburgh), and all northbound traffic is being diverted at Exit 16 (Harriman), pending the removal of the tractor-trailer.

The accident is still under investigation.

More info will be released as it becomes available, state police said.

Nearby, a separate crash on westbound I-84 at Route 52 (Exit 8), reported at 11:30 a.m., caused backups to the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge.
