A Northern Westchester woman who died at the age of 61 is being remembered as a celebrated high school athlete and dedicated mother. Jamie Valentino DeRosso, of Yorktown Heights, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, Sept. 14, according to her obituary. "Jamie emulated strength and grace during her 11 year fight against stage 4 cancer," her obituary reads. More than 20 students have been suspended by New York University for failing to comply with COVID-19 safety guidelines. The suspensions come just days after both in-person and remote classes began on Wednesday, Sept. 2. A system-wide COVID-19 case tracker dashboard has been located for the State University of New York's 64 universities and colleges. The data is reported by individual campuses every 24 hours to more efficiently monitor, respond to, and contain the virus, the state said in an announcement on Sunday, Sept. 6. 19: SUNY Oneonta To Close Campus For Fall Semester Amid Outbreak
With another 100 new COVID-19 cases confirmed, SUNY Oneonta said it will close campus for the remainder of the fall semester and switch to fully remote learning. With more than 100 COVID-19 cases reported on campus, SUNY Oneonta will close for two weeks. Westchester Man Dies After Fall While Hiking
A 43-year-old man from Westchester died after losing his footing while hiking on a mountain in the state of Washington. James Rothwell, who grew up in Mount Pleasant and graduated from Westlake High School in 1992, was with two other hikers on Buck Mountain in Chelan County, when he fell about 50 feet on Saturday, Aug. 4, according to the Seattle Times.
