Two 46-year-old men received summonses after having fires on their properties in the region amid a statewide burn ban, authorities said. Both incidents happened in Putnam County on Sunday, Nov. 17, and were in violation of Gov. Kathy Hochul's ban on burning for brush and debris disposal, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office announced on Tuesday, Nov. 19. Major Brush Fire In Hudson Valley Spreads Smoke For Miles
A major brush fire over at least a dozen acres in the Hudson Valley produced smoke that spread across the New York border into Connecticut. The blaze broke out at around 12:05 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 in Putnam County in the area of Route 301 and East Boyds Road in the town of Kent and was finally contained late in the day on Sunday, Oct. 27. 23-Year-Old Killed, 3 Injured In Head-On Crash In Area
A 23-year-old man was killed and three others injured in a two-vehicle head-on crash in the area. The crash took place in Putnam Valley around 8:55 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 27 on Wood St. Putnam Sheriff Kevin J. McConville said deputies were dispatched to Wood Street near Meadow Crest Drive for an automobile accident with injuries. 11-Year-Old Killed By Fallen Tree In Putnam
An 11-year-old boy was killed Friday afternoon when a tree crashed through a home amid the Nor'easter, according to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department. The tragic death occurred on 33 Dunderberg Road in Putnam Valley at about 12:15 p.m. When Deputy Charlie Johnson arrived, he observed a large tree had fallen and crashed into the home, trapping the young boy underneath. Johnson attempted to rescue the boy but was unable to reach him.
