Travel Alert: Palisades Interstate Parkway Stretch Will Be Closed During Maintenance There will be weekday lane closures for more than a week on the Palisades Interstate Parkway in Orange County. The New York State Department of Transportation sent an alert out on Tuesday, warning that beginning on Monday, Aug. 27, there will be lane closures on the parkway between exit 19 (Perkins Memorial Drive) and Bear Mountain Circle, as crews continue maintenance work in Highlands. The closures are expected to last from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, through Tuesday, Sept. 4. No work is expected to take place on Labor Day. A serious crash on the Palisades Interstate Parkway involving multiple vehicles has resulted in several reported injuries near the Rockland/Bergen border Tuesday evening. The southbound crash, reported around 7:30 p.m., occurred in Sparkill and blocked the left lane. The lane reopened at around 8:15 p.m. Traffic is backed up to Exit 5 (Route 303). Illegal PIP U-Turn In Alpine: Head-On Crash, Chain-Reaction Collisions A head-on collision that followed an illegal U-turn on the northbound Palisades Interstate Parkway at the state border early Wednesday evening left one person seriously injured -- and caused several minor chain-reaction crashes, authorities said. Three others sustained minor injuries in the 5:30 p.m. crash in Alpine, just steps from the New York border, PIP police said. No serious injuries were reported in the other crashes, which police said occurred during congestion from the major incident.

A serious motor-vehicle crash caused delays of a half-hour or more on a stretch of the Palisades Interstate Parkway in Rockland on Saturday.
