Have you had any unexpected visitors this Labor Day weekend? A couple of families on a residential street in Rockland County sure did, and they won't forget it anytime soon. "We had a bear in ours and our neighbors' yard on Sunday night," New City resident Peter Wolf told Daily Voice. Travel Alert: Palisades Interstate Parkway Stretch Will Be Closed During Maintenance
There will be weekday lane closures for more than a week on the Palisades Interstate Parkway in Orange County. The New York State Department of Transportation sent an alert out on Tuesday, warning that beginning on Monday, Aug. 27, there will be lane closures on the parkway between exit 19 (Perkins Memorial Drive) and Bear Mountain Circle, as crews continue maintenance work in Highlands. The closures are expected to last from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, through Tuesday, Sept. 4. No work is expected to take place on Labor Day. Several Injuries Reported In PIP Crash Near Rockland/Bergen Border
This story has been updated. A serious crash on the Palisades Interstate Parkway involving multiple vehicles has resulted in several reported injuries near the Rockland/Bergen border Tuesday evening. The southbound crash, reported around 7:30 p.m., occurred in Sparkill and blocked the left lane. The lane reopened at around 8:15 p.m. Traffic is backed up to Exit 5 (Route 303). PIP Fatal: Civilian Pulls Fort Lee Man From Car In Fiery Alpine Crash
UPDATE: A Good Samaritan stopped and pulled a 69-year-old man from his burning car after it crashed into a tree off the Palisades Interstate Parkway in Alpine early Thursday night, but the victim was later pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. Albert Stanczyk was headed south on the parkway alone when he apparently has some kind of medical emergency near Exit 3 just after 5 p.m., PIP Police Chief Michael Coppola said. Illegal PIP U-Turn In Alpine: Head-On Crash, Chain-Reaction Collisions
A head-on collision that followed an illegal U-turn on the northbound Palisades Interstate Parkway at the state border early Wednesday evening left one person seriously injured -- and caused several minor chain-reaction crashes, authorities said. Three others sustained minor injuries in the 5:30 p.m. crash in Alpine, just steps from the New York border, PIP police said. No serious injuries were reported in the other crashes, which police said occurred during congestion from the major incident.

Palisades Parkway Reopens After Crash

The crash, reported just after 9 a.m., is southbound at Exit 10 (Middletown Road) with stop-and-go delays to Exit 12 (Route 45). Expect Delays: Palisades Interstate Parkway Lane Closures Scheduled
There will be partial and full lane closures on the Palisades Interstate Parkway in Rockland County for several weeks as contracting crews get set to perform construction activities in the area. The New York State Department of Transportation has issued an alert warning that construction work in Haverstraw and Stony Point is expected to result in single lane closures and full lane closures on the parkway between exit 13 (Route 202) and exit 18 (Route 6), beginning on Monday, May 14. Serious Crash Causes Lengthy Delays On PIP
This story has been updated. A serious motor-vehicle crash caused delays of a half-hour or more on a stretch of the Palisades Interstate Parkway in Rockland on Saturday. The crash, reported shortly before noon, occurred southbound at Exit 11 (New Hempstead Road) with stopped traffic at the scene and stop-and-go delays to Exit 13 (Route 202). Man Asleep Behind Wheel In Disabled Vehicle On PIP Had Loaded Gun, Drugs
A 38-year-old man is facing weapon and drug charges after being busted by New York State Police troopers while armed and asleep at the wheel on the Palisades Interstate Parkway. New York State Police troopers were dispatched to a stretch of the parkway in Stony Point, where there were reports of a disabled vehicle on the side of the road.
