Storm With Gusty Winds Knocks Out Power To Thousands, Brings Down Trees In Rockland, Orange
Thousands are without power in Rockland and Orange counties as storms rolled through the region, bringing whipping winds of more than 70 mph that toppled tree limbs and downed power lines.
As of 12:30 p.m. on Monday, April 13, Orange and Rockland Utilities was reporting that 5,258 of its 105,399 Orange County customers were without power, while 8,100 of their 118,770 Rockland customers were without power.
Central Hudson was reporting that 6,362 of its 52,477 Orange County customers were also left in the dark.

Police: Man Attempts To Rob Rockland Worker, Steal Gun From Responding Officer's Belt
An area man is facing 10 charges, including five felonies, after attempting to rob a worker in an office in the area before attempting to remove a responding officer's gun during a subsequent altercation, police say.
The incident happened in Rockland County late Thursday afternoon, Feb. 20 in Nyack.
Orange County resident Kim Vasquez, 39, of Chester, allegedly entered the office, located on Cedar Hill Avenue, and refused to leave, Orangetown Police said.

Support Pours In For Family Of Woman Killed With Boyfriend In Area Crash
The community is coming out in force to help the family of a young woman who died along with her boyfriend during a single-vehicle crash in the area.
Orange County resident Alexis Lewis, 20, of Chester, was killed along with her boyfriend, Holmes B. Shindon, 21, of Montgomery, during a single-vehicle crash on Saturday, Nov. 16, on Route 208 in the town of Hamptonburgh.
Since Lewis' death, a GoFundMe page has been created to help pay for her funeral.

Man, Woman Killed When Car Crashes Into Tree In Area
A man ad woman were both killed when a car crashed into a tree in the area.
It happened on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 6:45 a.m. in Orange County, state police said.
Upon arrival at the crash scene on Route 208 in the town of Hamptonburgh, troopers observed a 2005 Dodge Neon off the roadway and against a tree on the eastern shoulder.
The operator of the vehicle, Holmes B. Shindon, 21, of Montgomery, and his passenger, Alexis Lewis, 20, of Chester, were both trapped inside the vehicle. Both were declared dead at the scene.
