Two Long Island lawyers are being sued by the New York Attorney General’s Office for allegedly stealing more than $1 million in funds earmarked for charity by a dead client. New York Attorney General Letitia James announced on Wednesday, April 27 that she has filed a civil complaint against lawyers Paul P. Marchese and Robin S. Maynard, both of Manhasset, for allegedly paying themselves with funds meant for a charitable foundation. Police are warning area residents to be wary after one was taken for more than $1,000 as part of a charity scam. Police have issued an alert warning of a charity scam involving a phony email sent from fraudsters. A Hudson Valley veterans' charity is shutting its doors after allegedly illegally stealing thousands of dollars in raffle ticket donations without ever hosting a raffle. Recently appointed Attorney General Barbara Underwood announced on Tuesday that her office has reached an agreement with the Wounded Warriors Foundation of Orange County, which must immediately dissolve and pay $4,200 in restitution to the consumers it defrauded.
