Bergen County DPW Worker Killed In Saddle River Tree Removal Operation Identified
A Bergen County DPW worker who killed during a tree removal operation in Saddle River Thursday has been identified by county officials. Thomas Epper, 48, was a two-year heavy equipment operator in the Bergen County DPW, County Executive James Tedesco announced. He was transported fatally injured while performing a routine tree-clearing in Saddle River, Tedesco said. "The Bergen County family mourns with the Epper family," he said in a release. A child in Bergen County is the first person in the U.S. to have been found carrying an exotic tick species discovered by researches last fall, scientists announced Tuesday. The child carrying the Longhorned Tick was not bitten and tests by a private lab revealed no pathogens in that tick, according to the Rutgers Center for Vector Biology at Rutgers University–New Brunswick. Bergenfield Man Caught With 3 Pounds Of Pot During I-87 Stop
A Bergen County man was busted with more than three pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop on I-87 over the weekend, New York State Police said on Monday. Troopers stopped Bergenfield resident Derrick Vaz, 52, at approximately 2:45 p.m. on Saturday for an alleged vehicle-and-traffic violation. While conducting the stop, troopers said that “probable cause to search the vehicle and its occupants was established.” Vaz was then found to be in possession of an estimated 3.2 pounds of marijuana, and he was arrested at the scene in Coxsackie, according to police. A motorist from Bergen County failed to stop at a stop sign before crossing the double yellow lines while turning in a crash that resulted in the death of a 73-year-old woman in the Hudson Valley, police said. On Friday, July 20, at about 9:20 a.m., state police from the Liberty barracks responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Route 17 westbound exit 100A in the town of Liberty in Sullivan County. A Bergen County native is on his way to the major leagues. Fair Lawn's Cory Heitler, a right-hand pitcher, was drafted in the 34th round of the MLB draft, 1,009th overall. The Ramapo College junior set the single-season strikeout record at Ramapo with his 112th of the season during the NCAA Regional Tournament.
