Man Using Forged ID Tries To Withdraw Nearly $5K From Bank In Stony Point

ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- A man attempted to withdraw nearly $5,000 from a bank in Rockland using a forged identity is facing multiple felony charges, Stony Point Police said.

Police responded to the Chase Bank on South Liberty Drive in Stony Point at 4:45 p.m. Thursday after a bank employee called reporting the man was in the bank attempting to withdraw $4,550 from a Chase account using an apparently forged identification of an actual bank customer from the state of Illinois.

Rafael Vega-Rodriguez, 53, of the Bronx possessed a forged Illinois driver’s license and a forged American Express card in the name of an actual person from Illinois, police said.

Vega-Rodriguez has been charged with five felonies: three counts of criminal possession of a forged Instrument, one count of identity theft, one count of attempted grand larceny and one count of criminal impersonation.

Vega-Rodriguez was processed and arraigned in the Stony Point Justice Court and remanded to the Rockland County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail. He is due back in court Wednesday, Sept. 6.
